Shinhyu Kang is originally from South Korea and moved to the U.S. in 2015. In 2024, Shinhyu joined Hope University as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Engineering after two years of teaching and research at Abilene Christian University in Texas. Shinhyu teaches a range of general engineering and civil engineering courses and supervises both undergraduate and graduate research projects, encouraging students to explore innovative solutions in concrete materials and sustainability.

Shinhyu's research focuses on concrete durability, the application of supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs), and the development of sustainable, low-carbon construction materials. Shinhyu has authored several peer-reviewed publications on topics such as predicting ion diffusion in fly ash cement paste, evaluating the performance of non-traditional coal ash in concrete and utilizing particle models to forecast concrete strength and electrical resistivity.
